Indian team today suffered a major jolt with Sachin Tendulkar being a doubtful
starter for the third and final cricket match against Pakistan here due
to knee pain.
Indian skipper Anil Kumble said Tendulkar had aggravated his knee pain
which he first felt during the one-day series and had been advised rest.
"In the Kolkata Test, Sachin aggravated his knee problem
that was first felt in the one-day series and has been advised rest," Kumble
told reporters on the eve of the match.
The captain said Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who is also suffering
from an injury on the webbing of his left hand, might play in Tendulkar absence.
"Dhoni might play in his absence, but we will take a call
on that tomorrow morning," he said.
Kumble, however, said Tendulkar's condition was improving after
he was given an injection but the final decision would be possible only tomorrow.
"He sought a specialist's opinion as soon as he arrived
in Bangalore and has been given an injection. His condition continues
to improve.
"However, if he fails to recover completely in the morning
we feel it wise to call for a back up," Kumble said reading out Indian
team physio John Gloster's report.
Meanwhile, the BCCI has asked Delhi batsman Gautam
Gambhir to join the team in Bangalore in case Tendulkar fails does
not recover in time.
