After being selected for the World Cup, it is time for out-of-form players
like Virender Sehwag and Irfan Pathan to regain their touch as they
go into the must-win third cricket one dayer against Sri Lanka here
today.
The shocking defeat in the last game at Rajkot must have made the home team
more desperate to level the four-match series 1-1 and regain some confidence
ahead of the mega event in the Caribbeans.
Virender Sehwag and Pathan have been going through a prolonged
lean patch but with the selectors reposing faith on their match-winning abilities,
it is time for both players to justify their inclusion and get back into form
in the remaining two matches before boarding the flight to the West Indies.
The Baroda boy Pathan looked pretty insipid with the ball in
the only match he has played after his return against West Indies while
Sehwag got out to a poor shot while scoring 19 in the middle order, during the
unsuccessful run-chase at Rajkot in the second tie.
The Indians would certainly have learned some important lessons
from that narrow five-run loss as Dravid said after the tie.
