The International Cricket Council Chief Percy Sonn's tenure has
been extended till 2009.
The channel sources further told that Sonn accepted an invitation
from the ICC to extend his term during a two-day board meeting that ended
on Friday.
"The standard term for an ICC president is two years and
that would have seen Mr Sonn completing his time in office next year, having
taken over at the 2006 annual conference," the ICC said.
"However, the board has discretion to invite the incumbent to remain in
office for a third year."
The Board also received a report on the two prospective candidates as Sonn's
successor.
Sonn will now leave office in June 2009 after there was a committee
split over whether to support ECB chairman David Morgan or Indian
Cricket Board chief Sharad Pawar as his replacement.
