Sourav Ganguly today found merit in the Indian Cricket Board's decision
to bar players' wives from accompanying them during the initial stages of the
World Cup, saying it would help the boys spend more time with each other.
"It's a big tournament. The players will get more time
with each other. The same thing was done during the last World Cup," Ganguly
told media persons when asked to comment on the Board's decision.
"Sometimes its good... It will give the husbands a break,"
Ganguly said humorously at a function where he was named brand ambassador of
Kolkata-based Chirag Computers.
BCCI Secretary Niranjan Shah told reporters that
the decision was taken to allow the players to focus on the world Cup.
"The initial days are very important. That's when the
players have to get their motivation right for the big event." Shah said
the BCCI would allow the wives to join the players once the team reached the
super eight stage.
"Then it's upto the players to decide whether they want their wives to
join them," he said.
