| Sourav Ganguly scores maiden ton at Eden garden as India pile on misery |
Local boy Sourav Ganguly shook off his Eden Gardens jinx to post
a century as India piled on the misery on the Pakistan bowlers by reaching
an intimidating 552 for five at tea on the second day of the second Test here
today.
Ganguly (102) played an array of scintillating strokes while scoring his maiden
hundred on his eighth Test appearance on the ground, besides putting on 163
runs for the fifth wicket with the stylish V V S Laxman (91 batting)
to propel India to their highest ever score on home soil against Pakistan.
The earlier highest was 539 for nine at Madras in 1960-61.
The elegant Laxman also seemed in the pink of form as he executed
several sweetly-timed strokes during his knock embellished with 14 hits to the
fence. At the break, Mahendra Singh Dhoni (nine batting) was giving company
to the Hyderabadi batsman.
