Pakistan Cricket Board are clearly not happy with Pakistan's wicketkeeper Zulqarnain
Haider's shocking actions. He left the team right before the final encounter in
Abu Dhabi and emerged from England. He said he was threatened by book makers.
PCB's advisor Taffazul Rizvi called Zulqarnain Haider's act as "very
irresponsible" when taking to the media. It was clear from Rizvi's statements
that PCB is not at all amused by Zulqarnain Haider act. Subsequently PCB has suspended
the financial contract of Zulqarnain Haider.
Pakistan Cricket officials have not yet criticized Zulqarnain Haider harshly,
despite expressing their displeasure. For now like everybody else board is trying
to figure out what really happened. There seems no indication that PCB and Haider
are thoroughly in touch with each other since controversy.
It was speculated that the management on tour had known about Haider's departure.
Pakistan Cricket Board categorically denied that. It was also said that
Zulqarnain Haider would face a life ban from PCB but an official told a Pakistani
sports channel that PCB have not yet decided anything of the sort.
PCB has made a fact-finding committee to deal with the issue. PCB issued a
statement which confirmed suspending stipend Zulqarnain Haider contract and
named the fact finding committee members which would include Pakistan team's
manager Intikhab Alam, Pakistan's security manager Maj. Khawaja Najam
and Subhan Ahmad a PCB official. PCB also said that they have tried to contact
Haider but he has not responded. He is only talking to one Pakistan sports channel
since his departure.
Stipend contract is secondary to central contracts. It is normally offered to
younger players, who are not a permanent feature in national teams but play
their parts on and off. Once a player is a regular in the team he is offered
a central contract with much more money and benefits.
Haider disappeared from Dubai mysteriously; he fled from Dubai to England.
He had first texted a TV reporter that he had received threats and put it on
his facebook page. Later he publically announced that he had received threats
along with spot fixing offers from a non-Pakistani Urdu speaking man and other
unidentified people. Zulqarnain Haider announced his retirement after
fleeing, but continuing the country's tradition took it back merely after a
few hours saying he is ready to play if approached "properly" by PCB.
ICC thinks Haider should've informed ACSU about the incident, but they have
also offered their support to player if he co-operates and involves them.
