At the end of the tenth game of the World Cup, the tournament is interestingly poised. Here is a brief lowdown on how the two groups are poised. Group A:
Here, the Pakistani and the Aussies are at the top of the group. Both have won their opening couple of encounters and after going into the tournament
as two of the teams struggling in this format of the game, it is a surprise.
Australia started their tournament with a reasonably hard-fought win over Zimbabwe.
The star of the game was a half century from Shane Watson and then a good bowling
performance from Mitchell Johnson. However, this was followed by an even
better performance against New Zealand, whom they defeated by seven wickets.
On the other hand, Pakistan had an easy first game against Kenya whom
they beat by 205 runs before overcoming the Lankans in a tight game. It was
a surprise result given that Sri Lanka went into the tournament as favourites.
Sri Lanka had earlier beaten Canada by 210 runs while New Zealand had
crushed Kenya by ten wickets and 42 overs to spare.
Amongst the Associates and the other minnows Kenya have lost to New Zealand
and Pakistan, Canada have gone down to Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe whereas Zimbabwe
have played two against Australia and Canada and won against the latter easily.
Group B:
It started with India getting a win against Bangladesh at Dhaka while England,
despite being stretched by the Netherlands managed to scrape through as well.
The two winners, India and England played out a tied game at the M Chinnaswamy
in Bangalore which makes the group very excitingly poised.
What makes the tie an exciting result is that England had chased down 338 and
made a record of sorts.
Apart from that, South Africa opened up their campaign in the tournament with
a win over the hapless West Indies. West Indies lost Dwayne Bravo to an injury
in that game and that meant that the side was without an all-rounder.
However, West Indies came back strongly to beat Netherlands in a one-sided
game by a 200-plus margin. This was thanks to Kemar Roach's six-wicket haul
that saw the Dutch collapse in a chase of 322 for a win.
Bangladesh also came back into the tournament with a win over Ireland after
scoring only 205 runs. that was one of the more exciting games after the India-England
tie.
