Even as India celebrated their first win in the tournament over Sri Lanka, the one man who would be most disappointed from their side is Vinay Kumar,
who was ruled out of the rest of the tri-series due to a knee injury.
The Indian seamer, Vinay Kumar was ruled out of the rest of the series in Zimbabwe,
after he suffered from a knee injury that happened at the start of the second
game. India were to face Sri Lanka in the match and then, decided to go in with
a third spinner in place of Vinay Kumar.
This would also mean that Vinay Kumar will now be sent back to India
and his place will be taken by Karnataka pace bowler Abhimanyu Mithun.
Mithun had had a good maiden season in Ranji and ended with 47 wickets at 23.23.
Mithun was earlier a part of the India A squad for the tour of England in June,
but will miss out on that one to replace Vinay Kumar. Mithun has received the
Border-Gavaskar Scholarship for 2010, that allowed him a two-week training stint
at Cricket Australia's Centre for Excellence.
India won the second ODI of the tri-series against Sri Lanka by smashing by
seven wickets and with 39 deliveries to spare. This was mainly possible due
to the manner in which the Indians first bowled, and then thanks to a Rohit
Sharma century which saw them home.
Rohit Sharma made his second successive century in the tournament, after having
scored his maiden century in the previous game, as India chased down a total
of 242 rather easily.
The Indian openers, Murali Vijay and Dinesh Karthik were dismissed early
in the chase, but it was Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma who got together
and ensured that the Indians will not have any great hiccups. Kohli scored an
82 after he had been dismissed for a duck in the previous match, and Sharma
made 101 to lead the side to the facile win.
Raina made an unbeaten 24 in the end.
Earlier, India had gone in with three frontline spinners and bowled their fifty
overs from their five bowlers only. except Umesh Yadav who went for 1/61
in his ten overs, the other bowlers were miserly and bowled well enough. Dinda,
Ojha and Jadeja, all picked up a couple of wickets each, while Mishra ended
with 0/40 off his ten overs.
