Known for scoring big hundreds, Indian opener Virender Sehwag today disclosed
his secret of tall scores, saying he can sort out any bowler if he carefully plays
for an hour and a half in the beginning.Sehwag, who was unbeaten at 128 after
the first day of the crucial second cricket Test against Sri Lanka here,
however, admitted that he was troubled by the incoming deliveries of pace spearhead
Chaminda Vaas, especially in the overcast conditions.
"Vaas was giving me a tough time as his incoming deliveries were good so I was very
careful in the first one and a half hour (of the innings)," Sehwag said after
the stumps were drawn early with India struggling at 214 for 4 on a rain-affected
day. "When you play for this duration, you know which
bowler is doing what and you get a hundred. That is why I like to play as long
as possible and put on big scores," said the Delhi batsman, whose previous
10 centuries are 319, 151, 180, 254, 201, 173, 164, 155, 309, 195. On
clobbering India's nemesis Ajantha Mendis, Sehwag said he picked the mystery
bowler rather early. Sehwag admitted he shared a great on-field
chemistry with opener Gautam Gambhir (56) as they were also good friends. "We
are playing together for ONGC, Delhi and India for long now. We are good friends.
We know each other well and we know running between the wickets," he said. Asked
if it was difficult adapting to Test cricket after shorter formats, Sehwag said
it was not an issue with him. "I am playing international
cricket for eight years so adapting is no problem for me whether it is Twenty20,
one-dayers or the Tests. I just play my shots," he said.
