Pakistan's captain in the ODIs and T20Is, Shahid Afridi has reportedly
said that there were issues between him and the coach of the Pakistani side, Waqar Younis. Pakistan won their ODI series against the West Indian side 3-2 after
leading the series 3-0 at one stage.
There had been rumours floating around that there had been problems between
the two, the captain and the coach over issues related to the selection of the
side. It was said that Afridi did not enjoy the fact that Waqar had a bigger
say in deciding the final eleven of the team and wanted to take ownership of
deciding the playing eleven. Currently, the three-man committee who decides
the playing eleven consists of Afridi, Waqar and the manager Inthikhab Alam.
It was also alleged that Afridi was so upset with the situation that he decided
to walk out of the room in which the three were having discussions around the
selection. It was then, at the behest of the manager that he was recalled back
into the room.
Speaking to the media, Afridi said that there may be differences but they can
be solved, however, he also added that everyone should do their own job and
not interfere in others' job. Afridi added that he will meet the PCB chief,
Ejaz Butt over the next week to discuss the issue. Even the PCB officials
have said that there have been issues between the two for a long time and while
there was no one to confirm that that the captain had indeed walked out of the
meeting, it does seem like the things are going wrong for Pakistan again.
