Legendary spinner Shane Warne has launched a fresh attack
on Australian coach John Buchanan`s heavy training workload, saying it
exhausted the team before the finals leading to its failure in the recent cricket
triseries.
"If you are playing international cricket, all
you want to do is feel fresh and happy you don`t want to be training into the
ground," said Warne, who has been critical of Buchanan`s training methods
in the past as well.
"They got tired for the finals and didn`t perform very
well and John Buchanan has to take responsibility for that," he was quoted
as saying.
Buchanan, who has designed a technique to ensure the team is
at its physical peak for next month`s World Cup, yesterday admitted the
decision to taper the training workload alongwith an injury to Andrew Symonds
might be the reasons for their decline.
"It has confirmed to the selectors, coaching staff and players that areas
we have targeted to improve can still be vulnerable under the microscope of
competition," he said.
The outgoing coach also said complacency and burden of expectations
could have contributed to the team`s first one-day finals defeat at home in
14 years.
