The captain of the Rajasthan Royals, Shane Warne has made some rather surprising
suggestions for the next edition of the Indian Premier League, which he
says is to ensure that there is transparency in the tournament. This, he also
adds will ensure that there is no favouritism to any franchises.
Warne has suggested a couple of, out of the ordinary ideas that include the
following:
A mid-tournament player transfer window and franchises being allowed three 'super
rounds', where they can field an extra international player.
The rules had earlier stipulated that the franchises could sign up a player
only up to the end of the third season, and after that, with the addition of
the two new franchises, there will be new auctions. However, the issue that
the sides are facing is that the new franchises want to ensure that there is
a level playing field for all, by having all the players in the auctions, whereas
the old sides want the franchises to be able to retain some foreign and domestic
players. It is not yet known whether Warne will participate in the tournament.
Sachin Tedulkar and Warne seem to be at the opposite ends of the spectrum in
this respect, as Sachin Tedulkar had only recently said that it will
be difficult for the franchise to rebuild the rband from scratch and hence there
should be allowance made to the old franchises.
Warne said, "No retention of players is a must for to achieve total transparency
in regards to the salary cap. It will increase the creditability of the IPL
as the players' final price will be established at the auction, whatever that
may be. However, the player can then be offered back to his original franchise
for an extra $50,000."
Warne added that if the franchises thought that the player was important enough
to them, they would pay the extra money to the player to get him back.
In another move, Shane Warne also suggested that the salary cap should
be increased to 9 million. Currently it is at $7 million.
The other major recommendation that Warne gave on his website was to allow
the teams to be able to negotiate with their respective captains in order to
allow the teams to formulate their own strategy. Warne had earlier said that
he may think of captaining Royals if they gave them an extra hike in the pay
that he had got in the first contract.
