Having cracked a composed ton to leave behind his bitter memories of a pair of
ducks in the first Test, a jubilant Indian opener Wasim Jaffer today said
he came to bat with an "extra bit of determination" to get a good score.
"It is nice to get a hundred in Test cricket, especially to come back and
get one after a pair," Jaffer told reporters after the opening day's play
against Bangladesh here.
"I am always determined no matter what the result is. It was that extra
bit determined after getting that pair. Obviously, getting a pair is not a nice
feeling. I was determined to get a good score and I am very happy," he
said after he was retired hurt for 138.
Jaffer had nausea and dehydration after batting in the gruelling
hot and humid condition for 272 minutes.
"Conditions are very tough as you can see. Me and Dinesh
Kaarthick had to come back due to cramps," Jaffer said.
Kaarthick, who had cramps, could also not come back to bat
after tea with his personal score on 82.
The Mumbai right-hander, however, parried a question on if
the players should refuse to play under such conditions.
"Playing or not playing (in such conditions) is not in
my hands; it is up to the BCCI or Bangladesh Cricket Board to
decide to play when and where." Jaffer thanked the team management for
backing him despite his pair in the Chittagong Test.
