Chris Gayle may not play in the three-Test match series against India after the
meeting between the West Indies cricket board and Chris Gayle did
not go as one would have liked it go. Gayle, who was dropped from the ODI series
against India for his scathing remarks on the cricket board was told that he would
not be picked by the selectors unless he met up with the board.
However, the opening batsman met the board along with the West Indies
Players Association chief Dinanath Ramnarine, who it is believed said that the
player should be picked by the selectors irrespective of the situation. The
board, on the other hand, said that Gayle needed to not only retract the statements
that he had made against the board on the radio show but also apologise to the
board for his remarks.
Gayle, before the start of the ODI series against India, had said that his
cricket career was being destroyed by the cricket board apart from the fact
that it was not only him but also Ramnaresh Sarwan who was getting the
wrong end of the stick. Gayle also added that the West Indian board had showed
no respect and did not bother to contact him at the end of the World Cup. He
also accused the board of dropping him and then not informing, citing that he
had only come to know through the newspapers the next day that he had not been
picked for the series against Pakistan.
However, the board had taken strict objection to these remarks made by Gayle and
refused to select him for the matches. It was earlier said that Gayle would be
selected after he meets the WICB but in the latest set of circumstances, what
has happened is that Ramnarine's consistent indulgence has led the issue to change
from being a Gayle versus board to being a WIPA versus WICB issue.
It means that the West Indian side will go into the series against India with
Gayle. It is going to be a three-Test match series which will be played at the
end of the ongoing ODI series between India and West Indies. India has already
won the ODI series by winning the first three of the five games of the series.
This means that the West Indians will need to do something drastically different
to have any chance of winning the Tests without Gayle
