India
may not be doing too well with the bat in the ongoing Micromax Cup tri-series
being played in Dambulla, but India's best batsman currently, Virender Sehwag,
has said that it was only a matter of time before the youngsters came into their
own and won the side the games. Earlier, MS Dhoni had also supported the young
Indian batsmen by saying that he was unconcerned about the batting collapses because
of the difficult batting conditions.
India has found the going very difficult in Dambulla, as the batsmen, except
Sehwag have all struggled. Sehwag has scored more than 230 runs in the series
so far, while the sum total of Suresh Raina, Dinesh Karthi, Rohit Sharma
and Virat Kohli runs have not even touched 100 yet. India has entered
the final thanks to the batting of Sehwag who has a 99 and a 100 to his name,
both, in winning causes.
However, Sehwag said that when he was younger, it had taken him a lot of games
to get a move on. Thus, he added, it will take time for the younger players
as well, and more time and patience must be given to them. He said, "We
have to live with that and give youngsters some confidence and tell them to
go out and spend some time at the wicket."
Virender Sehwag added that it was easy to pinpoint mistakes but it took
time to rectify them as well. He was referring to the manner in which the batsmen
have found the wicket-keeper or the slips by nicking the balls behind. Sehwag
added that whilst it was easy to say that one must leave more deliveries outside
the off-stump, it was difficult to do it in the middle. The Indian batsmen had
found it difficult to leave the balls outside the off-stump and that has made
life difficult for the side.
Sehwag also added that it was important that the Indians did not lose too many
wickets in the first 15 overs of the game, which made it difficult for the rest
of the side. he said that it was difficult to bat in the first 15, after which
the ball becomes easier on to the bat.
India will play Sri Lanka in the final of the tournament on Saturday
and the toss will prove to be a crucial factor in deciding the result.
