The issue between former Pakistan captain Younis Khan and Pakistan cricket board has apparently been solved and this will mean that Younis will be able to
play for Pakistan again. According to media reports, Younis Khan was asked by
Ejaz Butt to come and meet him at the PCB office following which, the dispute
was resolved and Younis Khan was selected to play in the team.
This means that Younis Khan will be a part of the ODI squad of Pakistan
against South Africa. It has also been rumoured that Younis Khan, who had retired
from the T20I version of the game will make a comeback into the T20 side as
well.
It is yet to be known whether Younis Khan will play in the Test matches but
the Pakistan team manager confirmed that he will play in the same. However,
the selector Mohsin Khan said that they will take it as it comes.
Mohsin Khan said that the PCB chairman had given the clearance to the Pakistani
selector to select Younis and they had discussed amongst themselves and made
the selection.
What would have helped Younis Khan's selection would have been the injury to
Moammad Yousuf. Yousuf suffered from a grade two tear in his abductor
muscle and will miss the entire series against South Africa, which also consists
of two T20Is, five ODIs and two Test matches.
However, the selectors did say that irrespective of whether or not Yousuf would
have got injured, Younis' selection into the side was a foregone conclusion
given the lack of experience the Test team has.
Younis was one of six players that the PCB either banned, fined or decided
would not be selected for an indefinite period in the aftermath of a disastrous
tour of Australia in 2009-10. Some of the others were Yousuf, Shoaib Malik and
Naved ul Hasan.
All the players except Yousuf had appealed against the punishments, but only
Younis' ban was not waived off. The rest of them saw them being cleared by the
Board while the Pakistan Cricket Board then asked Yousuf to make a comeback
on their tour of England.
Younis' case was stalled because of what many believed were issues between
PCB and Younis. The issue was that he refused to apologise to the board saying
that he had nothing wrong.
The board refused to overturn the ban. However, in the last few days, Butt
had come under pressure from the higher authorities to make truce with Younis.
