Quashing the notion that twenty20 cricket was only for "big hitters",
Pakistan's prolific batsman Mohammad Yousuf today said the shortest version
of the game was as tough as Test and one-day formats.
"There is this feeling that Twenty20 cricket is all about the big hitters
and sixes. But it is a wrong impression. Even in this type of cricket you need
to play with patience and pick the right balls to score runs," Yousuf told
reporters.
"You need experience and a good temperament to succeed
in twenty20 cricket because there is a lot more pressure on the batsmen,"
added the scorer of record 1,788 Test runs with nine centuries last year.
Despite keen on tasting success in twenty20 World Cup, Yousuf
refused to comment on speculation that he might not be in the team for the event
as selectors felt he did not have the fitness and fielding reflexes required
for the version.
"What can I say. I don't know what the selectors are thinking.
They know what is best for the team. As far as I am concerned, I am as keen
to play in the Twenty20 World Cup as the coming Test series against South
Africa, India and Australia," said the 32-year-old.
Yousuf, who was ignored for the captaincy by the Pakistan Cricket Board after
the team's failed World Cup campaign, said he was working hard and training
like any other player to keep fit for the tournament in South Africa.
