Catch the best of Caribbean cricket here on our site, your one stop destination for all cricketing needs. The West Indies have been traditionally one of cricket's powerhouses and despite their recent slide, they still have the capacity and the wherewithal to upstage any team on their day. West Indies cricket is undergoing a transformation phase after the passing of one the greatest cricketing generations ever. The Caribbean side captured everybody's sights in mid 60's and dominated cricket like nobody till the modern day Australian team has done.
What set the West Indies apart from most cricketing side was the fact that they brought previously unseen excitement and joy to the Cricket. Most
of their game revolved around some strong powerful hitting and deadly accurate fast bowling. The Windies of the 70's with hard hitting batting maestros like Vivian Richards,Clive Lloyd and Rohan Kanhai coupled with the pace battery of Marshall, Garner and Andy Roberts struck terror into most sides and that tradition was soon followed by now retired West Indies legends Brian Lara, Courtney Walsh and Ambrose. However, since their retirement, West Indies cricket has struggled for replacements and is finding it tough to cope up with the increasing interest in basketball in the Caribbean.
Towards the beginning of the new millennium, West Indian cricket plummeted into a new low with record defeats against Australia and South Africa. However, they have managed to stem the rot with the emergence of young exciting talents like Chris Gayle, Shivnarine Chanderpual, Ramnaresh Shrawan and Jerome Taylor. Chris Gayle has become renowned throughout World cricket for striking the ball with furious power and grace and his batting exploits have played a major part in the Windies reaching the ICC Champions Trophy finals, the third time it has done so in five attempts. With their repertoire of some of the most powerful and unpredictable hitters in World Cricket, West Indies can never be counted of any one day international but it is their test form which has worried most of the fans of the great cricketing nation. The West Indies have not won a single test for over two years now and their consistent bad form in test cricket has kept skeptics on their back with allegations of severe mismanagement and bad handling by the cricket board. The biggest crisis the Caribbean giants face as of now is filling the giant void left by the departure of ace bowlers Courtney Walsh and Ambrose. However in Jerome Taylor and Fidel Edwards, the current Windies side have potential and much of the future of Caribbean cricket will depend on how captain Ramnaresh Sarwan manages to handle all the precarious talent at his disposal and not let things get out of hand as they have done in the recent past.
