The Wankhade stadium in Mumbai will play host to two teams who
are playing for nothing but pride when Mumbai Indians come up against the Bangalore
Royal Challengers. Both these sides were the only cricket outfits in the Indian
Premier League to cost over $100 million each and after a hugely disappointing
IPL tournament, they will be hoping to make up to their ardent fans with a strong
showing this time around.

Mumbai Indians will be ruining their lack of coolness and nerves in
the dying moments of matches and that is the precise reason why they are out
of a semi-final place reckoning going into this clash. Mumbai lost out in the
very last ball against both Kings XI Punjab and the Rajasthan Royals
and skipper Sachin Tendulkar will be distraught the current run of things. Defeat
in their last three clashes has meant that Mumbai who have won six of their
thirteen matches will be watching the finals from the stands in Mumbai. In their
previous clash against the Rajasthan Royals, Mumbai snatched defeat from the
jaws of victory when they conceded fifteen runs in the last over to end up losing
to a side that had already qualified for the semi finals. The defeat was even
made worse by a comic school boy error from Sanath Jayasurya that allowed Rajasthan
to sneak in two runs when they should in reality have picked up a solitary run.
Mumbai Indians however do look in good batting form and Sanath Jayasurya has
really sparked the IPL alive with some outrageous hitting. The veteran Sri Lankan
opener has proved in recent matches that he is not past the expiry date and
he will be eager to stretch his six hitting exploits even further. Mumbai has
lost just twice at home out of their six matches and will go into this clash
as hot favourites to end on a high note.
Bangalore Royal Challengers will be more than happy to see the end of
a terribly disappointing tournament that has hurt them in more ways than one.
Skipper Rahul Dravid has been heavily criticised for picking up a defensive
line up. Although some of that is justified, this does not give room for excuse
for the likes of Jacques Kallis, Mark Boucher and Misbah Ul Haq who have been
rank bad all tournament. Bangalore however averted the ignominy of finishing
bottom in the Indian Premier League with a win over Deccan Chargers last
time around. Chasing 165, Bangalore finally managed to top the 160 mark for
the first time and they will be eager to stretch their two match winning streak
into three come this Wednesday. The bowling department on the other hand has
looked good with the likes of Anil Kumble and Dale Steyn well complimented
by Praveen Kumar and Zaheer Khan. Bangalore have won four of their thirteen
matches so far and with the team seemingly devoid of any ambitions and pressure,
a shock victory might just be on the cards when team Bangalore Royals Challengers
take on Mumbai Indians at the Wankhade Stadium in Mumbai this coming Wednesday
28th of May 2008.
