South Africa would be giving out a sigh of relief. They managed to square the
series after slipping for two games in the running. South African bowling continues
to be their trump card and can be more deadly in overcast conditions at Centurion
on January 23.
South Africa know that the playing conditions suit them more than the Indians
and nothing less than a win would be fitting at home. If the series is drawn,
India will be the happier of the two for holding the Proteas down. A win however,
will boost South Africa's morale and preparations for the World Cup next month.
Graeme Smith and AB de Villier's form has been patchy in the series.
Same can be said of Hashim Amla who scored a fluent fifty in the last
game. South Africa are duly missing Jacques Kallis as a batting unit. There
is enough talent but lack of planning and application with the bat. The bowling
is on the rise with each coming day. Lowando Tsotsobe has become a wicket taking
machine for South Africa while Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel support him
with really quick bowling. South Africa are not known to put icing on the cake
in commanding fashion, lets see if they can hold their nerves this time around.
South Africa have won three of their last five ODIs.
India's batting especially opening woes continue with Rohit Sharma still being
unable to fire at the top. India do not have the services of injured Virender
Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir, their regular openers. India's batsmen have
generally struggled to find consistency in the series. Yusuf Pathan after
his heroic innings in the third ODI slipped crucially in the fourth. Despite
Virat Kohli's shinning efforts at Centurion India need some batting resurgence.
MS Dhoni's men know that the conditions will again put them to Test and they
must pass with flying colors to ensure a historical series victory. These two
sides are deemed favourites for World Cup. The outcome of the series will help
determine which side will enter the tournament as no.1 favourites. India
certainly will try hard to come out the no. 1 team after Sunday's game.
India have won three of their last five ODIs.
