Former opener Lisa Keightley today replaced Mark Sorell as the first woman
coach of the Australian eves' equad.
Cricket Australia said in a statement that Sorell had taken over as the head coach
of the South Australia men's team.
Lisa has been the coach of the New South Wales Wolf Blass Breakers for the
past two seasons and has led the team to a pair of National Cricket League titles
playing aggressive, attacking cricket.
"I'm very excited and proud to be appointed coach of the Australian womens
team. I'm grateful that Cricket NSW has provided a pathway for my coaching development
and given me the opportunity, experience and support I needed to reach this
stage of my career," Keightley said.
"It's great that the position is a full-time role at the Cricket Australia
Centre of Excellence in Brisbane. It will be a good environment to work in with
high-class facilities and expertise across all aspects of the game," Keightley
said.
One of Australia's most accomplished women cricketers, Keightley retired after
the Ashes Series in 2005. A mainstay in the Australian team, she played 82 ODIs
and nine Tests between 1995 and 2005. In 1998 she became the first woman to
score a century at Lord's and was a member of Australia's World Cup-winning
squads in 1997 and 2005.
Keightley is the third highest run-scorer in ODIs and her 156
not out against Pakistan in 1997 is the second highest by an Australian.
