Pakistan beat Windies after delay

Third one-day international, Lahore:
Pakistan 192/3 (33.4/35 overs) beat West Indies 207-7 (46.3 overs) by seven wickets (D/L method) Pakistan overcame a blackout in Lahore for a seven-wicket win over West Indies to go 2-0 up in the one day series. Lendl Simmons

After Lendl Simmons (70) hit a maiden half century and Rana Naved ul Hasan took 3-37, the tourists were 207-7 in the 47th over when the lights went off.

The match resumed with Pakistan chasing a revised target of 191 from 35 overs and got there with eight balls left.

Imran Farhat hit 58 before Mohammad Yousuf and Shoaib Malik shared an unbroken stand of 44 in eight overs.

After the first match was washed out, just two games remain, in Multan on Wednesday and Karachi three days later, meaning Pakistan cannot now lose the series.

We didn't really bowl well because a target of 191 was in our favour Brian Lara

After the home side opted to bowl first, Naved gained some movement in a strong opening spell, dismissing West Indies captain Brian Lara first ball and Chris Gayle for 41.

Twenty-one-year-old Simmons, nephew of former West Indies great Phil, batted at three after lasting a single ball as an opener on debut in the defeat in Faisalabad on Thursday.

He added 52 for the second wicket with Gayle and 61 for the fourth wicket with Daren Ganga (20) but the lower order fell away.

Marlon Samuels was unlucky to be given out caught at slip off paceman Rao Iftikhar for 13, when replays showed the ball touched the ground before Imran Farhat snapped it up.

Left-arm spinner Abdul Rehman struck a double blow by bowling Ganga and then Runako Morton to finish with 2-33.

West Indies were again without veteran batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who was struggling with an injury to his left knee.

The home team were missing vice-captain Younis Khan, whose brother has died, but Yousuf returned after missing the last match for family reasons and hit a brisk 28 not out.

Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq left the field in the 14th over of the West Indies innings after hurting his finger trying to stop a shot from Samuels.

Officials said he would only bat if necessary after receiving two stitches but he was not required to take the crease.

Farhat and Mohammad Hafeez (31) gave Pakistan a streaky start by putting on 64 runs before the first wicket fell in the 13th over.

Hafeez played some powerful shots in his 43-ball innings, including a huge six over deep mid-wicket off Gayle, although the spinner eventually had him caught on the boundary.

Left-hander Farhat was also supported by Kamran Akmal, who struck 23 from 20 balls.

Corey Collymore, who beat the bat several times, had Farhat caught in the deep after he had swiped Samuels for a big six.

The tourists did not help their cause by conceding 31 extras including 17 wides.

"After Farhat's innings, extras let us down," said Lara.

"We didn't really bowl well because a target of 191 was in our favour and on a seaming wicket we should have done.

"We had a competitive score at the half way stage but we didn't put the ball in the right areas and you can't bowl so many wides and extra deliveries."
