Pakistan Cricket Board today announced its new selection policy, which gives the
team manager 'power' to finalise the final eleven on away tours with the selection
committee having the final say in a home series.
"On away tours like in the Twenty20 World Cup, the manager, coach and captain
will select the playing eleven and the selectors' job is only to give them the
touring squad," an official explained.
"For away tours the selectors cannot try to influence the selection process
of the playing eleven for any match and the manager has the veto power in consultation
with the captain," the official added.
In a home series, the selectors will be the final authority
to pick the playing eleven for Test matches as well as one-dayers.
The official said the reason for introducing the new policy was that the Board
had realised that team management was better aware of what conditions they were
playing in and which player(s) were best suited for the job on away tours.
In the recent past, the captain used to have the final say on the playing eleven
for Test or one-day matches. Be it at home or on away tours, and the selection
committee was restricted to just finalising the full squad, not the playing
eleven.
