Shane Warne, the legendary Australian leg spinner, has announced
his retirement from all forms of cricket. The spinner, who had retired from
one day international cricket in 2003 and from test matches in early
2007, announced his retirement from first class cricket yesterday. Shane
Warne has been an incredible bowler and has served the Australian team to
the best of his abilities. He leg spinner has had an excellent career with more
than 600 test wickets. Shane Warne stated that he wanted to spend time with
his kids as the reason for his retirement from first class cricket.
The news of Shane Warne retiring from first class cricket is definitely not
good news for Hampshire, the county club for which Warne played. The chairman
of the club understands the fact and mentioned it in a recent interview. He
stated that Shane Warne is a major reason behind the meteoric rise of the club
from a 'sleep provincial club' to the top most contenders of the county club
championship. Shane Warne's contribution to the game is immense. The bowler
bought an entirely new meaning to the art of leg spinning. Shane Warne's ability
can be adjudged from the fact that he has been known to spin the ball at 90
degrees. This is something that has never been done by any other bowler. His
ability to fox the batsman with subtle yet brutal changes will be missed by
the cricketing world.
The leg spinner has had a large number of turbulences on the
personal and family front. He hopes that his retirement from all forms of cricket
will help him sort out various family matters. Also, the leg spinner stated
that he wants to spend as much time possible with his three kids, something
he realized after spending a weekend with them. Warne had been irregular in
the last few months of his stint with the county club Hampshire and was thus
expected to retire. The leg spinner leaves on a cordial note with his club and
is expected to take a complete break from cricket for some time. Shane Warne
is then expected to return as the spin bowling coach for Cricket Australia,
Australian cricket's governing body. Warne had been under immense pressure because
of his commitment with the Indian Premier League (IPL). Shane Warne will
now be looking forward to improving his image. Getting together with his family
will be is prime motive.
